Build Big Triceps with Bands (NO WEIGHTS!): The Ultimate Guide

Introduction

If you want to build big triceps but don’t have access to weights, we’ve got you covered! In this article, we will guide you through the best triceps exercises using only resistance bands. Whether you’re working out at home or facing gym closures, these band exercises will help you achieve your tricep goals without compromise.

The Benefits of Resistance Bands

Resistance bands are a versatile and affordable alternative to traditional weights. They come in various resistance levels, allowing you to gradually increase the intensity of your workouts. Additionally, they are lightweight and portable, making them perfect for home workouts or when you’re on the go.

Effective Exercises for Bigger Triceps

1. Banded Standing Dip: Mimicking the dip movement without the need for suspension, this exercise targets your triceps effectively. Using a heavier resistance band will help you increase the overload on your triceps.

2. Banded JM Press: This exercise replicates the benefits of a barbell or dumbbell JM press using just a resistance band. It can be done without a bench, adding convenience to your workout routine.

3. Diamond Cutter Pushup: By adding a resistance band to traditional pushup variations, you can enhance the effectiveness of the exercise. Wrapping a band around your back will intensify the resistance, allowing for better tricep development.

4. Banded Lying Triceps Extensions: This modification of the popular dumbbell lying triceps extensions targets your triceps more efficiently. With the band acting perpendicular to your forearms, you’ll experience increased tension in your triceps during the exercise.

5. Banded Kickback: Often overlooked, the banded kickback can be highly beneficial for triceps growth. The resistance band provides overload on the long head of the triceps in its peak contracted state.

6. Banded Overhead Extension: By altering the resistance curve of the exercise, the banded overhead extension intensifies the workout. Unlike traditional dumbbell variations, the band provides greater resistance at the top end, maximizing tricep engagement.

7. Banded Woodchopper Pushdown: This exercise incorporates both body English and a greater range of motion, allowing for stronger contraction of the triceps. It provides similar benefits to a heavily weighted triceps pushdown.

8. Banded Pushaway Plus: Enhance the triceps pushaway by holding your arms in the overhead position and stepping away from the band. This added isometric overload provides extra resistance and further stimulates tricep development.

9. Twisting Lunge and Pushaway: Combining tricep activation with dynamic movement, this exercise offers conditioning benefits along with targeting the triceps. Utilize a low anchor point, lunge, and press for an effective workout.

10. Cobra Pushup with Resistance Band: If you’re a fan of bodyweight exercises, adding a resistance band to the cobra pushup will take it to the next level. The additional resistance overloads the triceps, promoting hypertrophy.

Conclusion

Now that you know the best exercises to build big triceps with resistance bands, you can achieve your goals without weights. Remember, resistance bands offer a convenient and efficient alternative to traditional equipment. Stay committed to your workouts and watch your triceps grow stronger and more defined. So grab your resistance bands and start sculpting those impressive triceps today!

You can hit triceps from so many angles with bands. I would recommend choking up on them a little bit. He’s just using the loop. You can hold it for much more tension and get deep cuts in the triceps.

Your resistance band series is by far the most authoritative and unique guide for us viewers. It'll last the test of time for sure! They must have 100 plus views from me alone till now, and so many more to come as I vary the routine and try more.

Really, thanks a lot, Jeff. You're the best!

Hello

Apologies for the dumb question, but is it possible to build nice triceps without doing push-ups? I've always struggled to do push-ups, it looks like I'm doing down a bit crooked, and I don't think that's all that helpful for me.

PLEASE MAKE MORE OF THESE!

Every exercise benefits my life so much, I'm injured l5-s1 and the low body series feels like a NEW WORLD. Thank you Jeff.

Can we get one for lower back exclusively? I know there exists an exercise for the low back that is like the FACEPULL OF THE LOWER BACK. Or just tell me which is like the face pull of the low back lol aka the most stabilizing lower back exercise ??

(Even though I know face pulls stabilize low back as a secondary benefit)

Even if nobody reads this, I still wanna express my thanks at least. Thank you for making great, honest, actually effective content that changes lives. We ALL appreciate it.

The Cobra Push-up hits my triceps like no other exercise I’ve ever tried. I’m lanky so it’s difficult to find exercises that really help my triceps develop, but I’ve been seeing an improvement in just a few weeks by using cobras. Fantastic one to learn, appreciate it.

The biggest problem with rubber bands is the pressure gradient from retraction to full extension. You just don't get the consistent resistance like you do with weight training but on the flip side it has a lot more versatility…

Ok, I’ve been an Athlean X fan for many moons, so much that I’ve turned others on to Jeff’s approach, but how have I not seen this band series?! I’m 60 freakin 7 years old (so I’m told) but I’ve discovered these past 18 months or so, that my earlier workouts don’t suit me as well. In fact, I’ve found myself with strains and minor injuries, that my mind couldn’t understand, until I realized those same workouts and gains, fine when I was in my 50s and early 60s, now need to be smarter, not harder.
I guess if I live long enough my workouts will be a meditative hour to ‘think’ about it!

Yeah, right.
