In today’s fitness world, there is a plethora of information available at our fingertips. One popular fitness program that has gained a significant following is Athlean X. But is Athlean X a major fitness problem? Let’s dive into this topic and take a closer look at the controversy surrounding Athlean X and my reaction to Greg Doucette.

The Rise of Athlean X

Athlean X, created by Jeff Cavaliere, is a fitness program renowned for its focus on functional training and promoting strength gains. Over the years, it has gained a massive following, with thousands of individuals achieving their fitness goals through the program. Athlean X provides workout routines, nutrition advice, and comprehensive training plans that aim to transform your physique.

Greg Doucette’s Critique

Greg Doucette, a well-known bodybuilder, fitness coach, and social media personality, recently uploaded a video critiquing Athlean X. In his video titled “Is Athlean X a Major Fitness Problem?”, he highlights some concerns he has with the program. Doucette argues that Athlean X promotes unrealistic expectations by promising quick results without disclosing the use of steroids or performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs).

Doucette’s reaction to Athlean X has sparked a heated discussion among fitness enthusiasts and fans of both sides. While some support Doucette’s claims and appreciate his transparency, others defend Athlean X, stating that the program provides valuable information and effective training methods.

The Fun and Informative Aspect

Now, let’s infuse some fun into our discussion while keeping it informative. It’s important to note that this article aims to present the controversy objectively, and you can form your own opinion based on the available information.

Athlean X: The Good

Athlean X offers a comprehensive approach to fitness, emphasizing functional training techniques that not only enhance strength but also improve overall athleticism. The program provides detailed guidance, exercise demonstrations, and nutrition plans, making it suitable for individuals of various fitness levels.

Athlean X: The Criticisms

Greg Doucette’s main concern centers around the lack of disclosure regarding PEDs. He believes that fitness influencers should be transparent about their use to set realistic expectations for their audience. Additionally, some individuals have criticized Athlean X for its marketing tactics, claiming that it overpromises results.

Forming Your Own Opinion

When it comes to fitness programs, it’s essential to research and consider multiple perspectives. Athlean X has undoubtedly helped many people achieve their fitness goals, but it’s important to acknowledge the concerns raised by Doucette and others.

Ultimately, the choice of fitness program depends on individual preferences and goals. It’s crucial to focus on sustainable progress and prioritize your overall health and well-being.

In conclusion, while Athlean X has its critics and controversy surrounding it, it remains a popular fitness program with a loyal following. As with any fitness program, it’s essential to research, critically evaluate the available information, and make an informed decision based on your personal goals and beliefs.

Remember to always consult with fitness professionals and listen to your body when embarking on any fitness journey. Stay informed, stay active, and most importantly, enjoy the process of becoming a healthier and stronger version of yourself.

Note how Jeff ALWAYS has his shirt off, but we have literally never seen the man in shorts. What kind of lifter never wears shorts? He is clearly hiding his chicken legs. That alone is a huge clue that he’s a charlatan and doesn’t know anything about weightlifting.

I think an important thing to consider with all of the fitness Youtubers is to look for what they are good at. Jeff is a PT, and when looking at things related to PT, and movement, he is good. Beyond that, he is really only going to be good for gen pop trying to get more healthy. Any serious strength training, and you're better off looking elsewhere. He's going to be better than some cough Thenx cough Vshreds *cough*, but not ideal. Powerlifting, strongman, weightlifting, bodybuilding, etc., find someone better.

My training needs and goals are so unique and individual to me that I watch all kinds of content, and take out what will be most useful. It takes more time, but maybe that is the biggest problem with fitness Youtube. There is no one size fits all, but that is exactly what the vast majority look for, and many content creators try to be.

Being super lean is not a measure of your overall health, just as much as being big and strong isn't. For some people trying to achieve Jeff's physique is crippling… for others, trying to reach certain strength or mass measures is crippling.

Jeff's videos go back ten years and he looks the same now as he did then. So, his body building advice doesn't seem to work on himself. I think he's pretty good on rehab and he should stick to that. Greg Doucette? I don't know how anyone can stand that voice for more than one minute. It's as if Gilbert Gottfried found the key to the steroid cupboard.

All these will not come together jeff say lean athletes lean at 5 percentage you will become weak your hormonal system will not react well jeff should also talk about being too lean is not great at all we need to be atleast 11 to 15 or 8 or 7 not being 5 it is harmful energy consuming

greg brags bout bein singkle digit with his steriod ass but not a problem but Jeff does it natty then hes the problem.. in his video he makes it clear its not for every one, the biggest and go problem is greg, if you dont see your abs your fat, or the fact he says hes in the 1 percent of people with best genetics and he still needed steroids so what does that tell us people who aren't in the 1 percent, didn't a guy just die trying to be lean using Gregs supplement and cook book

Got obsessed of being lean all year round – i'd say I'm around 9-10%BF. Dude was beach ready year round 🤣. The downside for me was I couldn't progress in weights and sometimes feel restless even all the factors are on point. i couldn't even bench my bodyweight.. then I decided to bulk and that was the best decision I made

Steve, I always looked to you as being the level headed mentor. That's why I love your channel. For anyone to even insinuate that Jeff's leanness is a problem in the industry is one of the most ridiculous things I've heard. It is fitness 'wokeness' at its finest. You've said it yourself many times, Jeff Cavalier is an incredibly valuable source of information and there is a reason he is at the top. Frankly he is damn good. His detractors want to try and springboard off him for views but it doesn't change the perception of the millions, literally millions, that he has helped. The guy didn't fool his way to the top. He helps people which puts him at the top. He even says himself that there are tradeoffs to being really lean that most people wouldn't need to make and still have an amazing physique. Any how, this whole subject is just disingenuous and I would hope that you'd land on the side of reason. Acknowledge the guy for the goat that he is and instead point the finger at the real problem you didn't even mention. View mongering whores like Greg Doucette who rely on controversy and useless Natty or Not videos to gain an audience. As your pal Alan Roberts said himself, Greg would lick Jeff's nuts to be him if he could.

I’ve never thought Jeff has a great physique at all. Looks scrawny to me. Never see his legs. Not a look I like or want.

I think your spot on with looking at the similarities between various diets and lifting methods. Working on the basics is going to propel someone further along than attaching yourself to a specialized or dogmatic approach.

I won’t say it’s the biggest problem, but I COMPLETELY understand what is being said. Jeff is 5% BF year round, and it’s a very UNREALISTIC measure for 98% of the population to compare themselves too. However, you cannot base YOUR goals and YOUR fitness off of how others view you

Reply
Michael Nielson June 18, 2023 - 1:06 pm

I agree that the biggest problem is misinformation. I also believe that there is a big problem with body dismorphia and promoting unrealistic expectations. As well as I think it would be nice if some influencers would be more transparent about their PED usually instead of claiming fake natty. Pushing out more unrealistic expectations to the average person
